ROOT CAUSE

Engineering teams struggle with burnout and unpredictable delivery timelines. Current tools focus on outputs rather than sustainable productivity.

A monitoring tool that tracks developer activity patterns to identify burnout risks, optimize team allocation, and improve delivery predictability.

The Problem

Engineering Burnout Patterns

Every engineering team we've talked to faces the same questions:

  • "When will this actually ship?"
  • "Is the team over capacity?"
  • "Why did delivery slip again?"

Current tools try to answer this with more metrics, lines of code, commit frequency, pull request count. But these measure outputs, not sustainability. A team can be incredibly productive while burning out, or看似 idle while doing deep thinking work.

What Makes This Different

We're not building another dashboard for managers to micromanage. We're building early warning systems for team health.

What We Track

  • Activity Patterns: IDE usage, git commits, PR activity (without reading code content)
  • Cadence Analysis: Working hours, weekend work, late-night coding
  • Collaboration Metrics: Code review participation, meeting load
  • Delivery Patterns: Cycle time, lead time, deployment frequency

What We Don't Track

  • Code Quality: We're not judging your code
  • Individual Performance: No ranking or comparing developers
  • Keystroke Counting: We're not building Big Brother

The Signal We're Looking For

Burnout has patterns. When engineers start:

  • Working longer hours without proportional output
  • Committing more frequently with larger diffs (rushed work)
  • Losing their normal cadence (weekend work, late nights)
  • Dropping out of code reviews (isolation)

These are early warning signs. The goal is to catch them before they become crises.

Privacy First

This tool only works if engineers trust it. That means:

  • Individual Data Stays Individual: Only you see your detailed activity
  • Aggregate Insights for Teams: Managers see team-level patterns, not individual spy data
  • Opt-In: Teams choose what to track
  • Right to be Forgotten: Data can be deleted at any time

Current Status

We have a working prototype that:

  • Connects to GitHub and GitLab APIs
  • Passively monitors IDE activity (VS Code, JetBrains)
  • Generates team health dashboards
  • Flags potential burnout patterns

Next steps:

  • User testing with engineering teams
  • Privacy audit and security review
  • Integration with popular project management tools

Want to try it? We're looking for pilot teams.
